Radeon hybrid on Dell Vostro 3350 (Intel Sandy Bridge/Radeon 6470M)

Hello everyone,

I'm currently trying all possible constellations of open source intel/radeon and proprietary catalyst drivers to get the discrete graphics working on my new Vostro laptop. The main problem I'm facing is that I just can't route the output of the Radeon to any display.

The X server seems to start up fine with the open source as well as the proprietary driver (the Xorg logs look pretty good when checking them via ssh). So it does actually recognize the discrete graphics, although the open source driver always tells me that there do not seem to be any displays attached.

I tried vgaswitcheroo to switch between the outputs. /sys/kernel/debug/switch does show the states of the integrated and the discrete graphics alright, but when I switch to the discrete graphics (i.e. echo'ing "DIS" to "switch"), instead of switching outputs, the screen just freezes. I can still operate the system blindly or remotely, but the video output is just frozen.

Any hints on how to actually switch the output?

And also this:

Particullary

There are two versions of hybrid graphics: MUXed and MUX-less. MUXed have a display MUX to switch the displays between the discrete and integrated cards. MUXed systems can be switched using vgaswitcheroo. MUX-less do not have a display MUX and the displays are only connected to the integrated card. On MUX-less systems, the discrete card is solely for rendering, not display. At the moment the X server does not support rendering and display from different cards so the discrete card can not be used with MUX-less systems at the moment.

Yeah, I think you are right. It really seems to be a mux-less system.

Interestingly, the proprietary catalyst driver seems to detect the integrated Intel graphics during PowerXPress initialization and loads the intel-driver in addition to fglrx as if it would prepare to use it for something (maybe output video through it? - just a wild guess).

Anyways, X then just segfaults. Seems like I'm not the only one experiencing these segmentation faults (see the AMD/ATI bar & grill thread).
