Matlab Image acqisition toolbox doesn't find my webcam
Hello,
I have to work with the image acquisition toolbox and i find it quite disturbing to always change to windows. So I installed Matlab 2010b on my Linux machine (Arch, Kernel 39). Skype & friends work perfectly with my camera (using uvcvideo/video4linux2) but Matlab doesn't.
It says

Googeling just told me, that it should support video4linux2 and other programs can use the camera.
What can I do?

/e2: I am in the "video" group and running matlab as root doesn't help.

It might be important, that I use Matlab 64 bit while "lsmod | grep v4l2" says:
v4l2_compat_ioctl32 8364 1 videodev
Does this mean that my video4linux2 driver is 32 bit? Or something like that?

v4l2_compat_ioctl32 is part of both the 32 and 64 bit packages, so i doubt that is the problem.
your problem seems to be that mathlab imaqhwinfo doesn't detect your camera , and thus you can't use it in mathlab.
video is the group displays , check if you are a member of camera group.
What is the brand / model / type of your camera ( if you don't know , state those of the laptop ) .
Which version of matlab are you using ?
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

There is no "camera" group, creating it and adding myself to it doesn't help.
Enabling the module v4l2-common didn't help, I already tried that.

HP doesn't have specifications of the webcam except : 720p HD webcam, so that doesn't bring us further.

my mistake, should have asked for the output of :

Apart from video 4 linux 2 mathlab also supports GigE Vision and DCAM IEEE 1394 standards.
DCAM is a standard for firewire devices, GigE vision deals with cameras connected over ethernet.
The uvcvideo driver appears to be only usable through video4linux .

Remote Wakeup Enabled/e: yes, I found that thread already, but I think it's a different problem since in that case "imaqhwinfo" returned something initially. In my case it seems to be some issue between video4linux and Matlab rather than the camera.

Ok, the camera has been identified as being manfactured by Chicony for HP.
PCI-id 04f2 : 2b30 .
I have found nothing about using this camera for matlab, and chicony is not 1 of the supported manufacturers for the imac toolbox.
It looks like you have 3 options :
- buy a camera that is supported under linux for the imac toolbox
- setup the webcam to record a continuous stream to a file , access that file from within imac .
- post in the matlab groups mentioned by dave tarkokwski and ask for their help :
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

However I'm using matlab inside a centos 5 chroot, I don't know if that matters, I remember that before matlab used to complain about something when running directly on arch and as I have the need for a chroot for other programs I have started to use matlab there.

Works here on Arch, too (64-bit, kernel 2.6.39.1, now Matlab 2011a but it used to work in 2010b, too). I have a logitech webcam, if you need any further information, just ask.

Hmm really strange, I just checked my output of "udevadm" and "lsusb" and it's similiar to yours.
I just checked which of my installed packages have something to do with "video support" and just found these two:
v4l-utils 0.8.4-1
sdl 1.2.14-6
I guess it's worth a try if you don't have them already,

The libc error is not really an error, oscheck.sh is quite dumb about its assumptions (for one thing, we don't use lib64), doesn't affect actual operation.
