Blank screen after boot - After update.

Hello!

I have the following problem with my arch dist:

I recently  - and after several weeks without touching it - updated my arch but, after rebooting, the laptop screen went blank just after booting up. Using the fallback boot resulted in the same ... well.. result. This is as much as i can describe since i don´t know how to access a comand line in this context, in order to test/check what´s going on. Anyone can help me?

Thanks

Try ctrl+alt+f1 or any fkey to get to the command line.

Re: Blank screen after boot - After update.

You can press ctrl + alt + f1 through f6 to get access to a console terminal (tty1 through tty6). The tty7 is reserved for X. From the console terminal you can start troubleshooting. Please provide some more info on your system (desktop environment, window manager, display manager et cetera).

Edit: Yes, too late again.

Re: Blank screen after boot - After update.

Assuming you are using grub, you can edit /boot/grub/menu.lst when grub is loading, in order to force it to not boot into X. On boot, select your normal arch linux entry from to boot list (don't press enter) and type e to edit the menu.lst Press e again on the kernel line and append this number:

kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 resume=/dev/sda5 ro 1

Press enter and then you boot it by pressing b. It is the number at the end that defines the run level, in this case 1 (single user). This will allow you to boot into console as root.

Edit: I meant run level 1 (single user)

Re: Blank screen after boot - After update.

ok! First of all, thanks. I did a full pacman -Syu to the system but still it didn´t work. I suspected  - since it had made head hurt in the past - that this is a problem related to the catalyst driver - fglrx - that i use for my ati. In boot, the module loading fails when fglrx is flaged for boot. If i remove it from rc.conf modules loading, the modules loading doesn´t fail but i get the same problem. I can try to resinstall the open source driver... But still, any thoughts on the matter? Thank you all again

Re: Blank screen after boot - After update.

ok! I re-install the catalyst-test driver that i was using and the module_loading managed to not fail this time so everything is... aparently ... working now. SO, again, thank you all!
