Since the last upgrade of mplayer it refuses to start because it can not find libmpg123.so.0 - downgrading solves the issue - there is no libmpg123 package anywhere - except lib32-mpg123 - but I'm on 64bit here - who knows what is going on?

You are right :-) I had mpg321 from aur installed as an optional dependency for xcfa. mpg321 only supplies the binary, not the library - thank you wonder.
