A splendid idea and a great site. Wonderful.

Of course, one thing to help on the way to perfection is the Emacs item on it.

Re: DotShare.it - Dot sharing for the masses.

Also, not sure if anyone mentioned it before, but shouldn't "Followers (Integer)" show the amount all followers and not just the max (5) displayed on user page?  Just makes it a little confusing in thinking that everyone with >=5 followers only has 5. Not an ego thing by any means just saw it and was like "huh, weird". tongue

I'm personally not an Emacs person, could you guys give me an idea of the kind of things you'd share for it? Would one Emacs category be good, or would some separation (like with vim, rc/colors) be better?

Noted.

Added.

Also we're on Twitter now if people want to follow for updates. Will mainly just be tweeting updates (e.g. new categories) as well as using it as another source for feedback and category requests.

Re: DotShare.it - Dot sharing for the masses.

About Emacs, I think one option, to start with, is enough to put our .emacs.

Following your method of groups, maybe could be like :

editors/
           emacs
           vim.colors
           vim.rc

I think
emacs/
        colors
        rc
vim/
        colors
        rc

would be fine, since these are the only 2 major editors.

Re: DotShare.it - Dot sharing for the masses.

On Emacs: Thing is, Emacs Lisp configuration tend to spread out over separate files, typically in the .emacs.d directory or the global site-lisp directory. But for starters, I agree with RoobZ that sharing our .emacs/.emacs.el/init.el file could be useful.

I'd like to announce multi-file support is now live :]

With that said now, what would you guys wanting Emacs prefer for categories?

I can only speak for myself, but I think that the main configuration file is probably the most interesting to share.

Re: DotShare.it - Dot sharing for the masses.

Can dwm become subsections for patches and status scripts?

And maybe a patch section for sxiv? Or maybe a generic patch section?

*edit*: Cool project, thanks smile

Alright, I'll see about getting an Emacs group/category up ASAP.

Hrm, I don't want to go crazy with the specific groups. For the most part I'd like to keep groups as generic as possible to keep things easy to find. Separate groups for dwm and wms isn't all that intuitive and I'd like to avoid sub-categories to keep things easy to find. I'll try and think something up for situations like this.

For now though, with multi-file support, you should be able to just add your patches and status scripts with your dwm config and note anything important in the notes.

This site looks magnificent and I hope it'll grow into a serious config database. Good luck!

I concur. IMO, using the multi-file support is the "cleaner" way of doing things. I think  it also makes more sense, since all patches/scripts are part of a specific setup.
