I ran makepkg on a PKGBUILD script I modified.
It contains "depends=(xorg-server)".
It made good progress until it hit this:
checking for XORG... no
configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server >= 1.0.99.901 xproto fontsproto ) were not met:
No package 'xorg-server' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XORG_CFLAGS
and XORG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
Aborting...
But "pacman -Qs xorg-server" reveals version 1.10.2-1 is installed.
Why can't makepkg find it?

Thank you, falconindy! You are right. I installed it and now it compiles.
