Hey dibble, how many standards are there going to be? Should we make a special section of the wiki, or better yet, the official documentation (standards shouldn't be editable!) for the groups of standards?

Re: adesklet plugin standard

Very funny!

Dunno if you have every used adesklets but it is the scrapiest peice of software in the world "cp this here, link that there, chown this" etc - it's crap - with a bit of discussion we can standardize the adesklet plugin PKGBUILDs so they are all easier to install and integrate.

Amusingly it's really an upstream issue that we'll have to address here - don't tell lanrat

Re: adesklet plugin standard

er... I wasn't joking. I'm thinking that with CVS, SVN, Java, and general standards being created, maybe we should have an official spot for them. Although that requires an official documentor...

Re: adesklet plugin standard

For this very reason, I don't use pacman to install individual adesklets wink

Re: adesklet plugin standard

Here are some quotes from an adesklet developer on distros packaging them, I found these in the forums over there when i was making packages some time ago, ended up just putting the desklets in my /home/.config dir and never tried this.

things like desklets are somewhat in a grey zone, but according to the general spirit, it should probably be kept together in a single directory like /usr/share/adesklets or something similar. Symlinking to it is only a natural approach from there.

You could very well install desklets in any accessible place of your system, then just populate appropriately your home. Cruedly, on a GNU system, this would look like,:
Code:

cd $HOME/final/path/to/desklet
find /path/to/desklet -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 | sed 's/.*/(.*)/& 1/' | xargs --max-lines=1 ln -s

And nothing would prevent you to use your favorite package manager to install desklets with it
