Good morning,
I'm a happy linux user, I've been using Gentoo for 5 years and now I'm trying Arch on a partition.
I'm a on a fresh new install of Arch. The architecture is x86.
Everything is working well, but I'm having lot of trouble with pulseaudio.
My laptop is a Hp dv5. My soundcard is:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
and in pulseaudio volume control, under the tab "input", there is only one anonymous input. I get no input from there.
Looking in alsamixer, I found the correct level for mic and input, everything is unmuted but, still, I cannot use any input source (for example in skype).
In /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf there is:
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5
When I started using pulseaudio on gentoo, I had to upgrade it to the next unstable version to get input control full-work. On Gentoo, indeed, on the input tab I can select from within 3 different input: integrated mic, external mic, line in.
But it happens months ago, so I think the version I used is the one used actually on Arch.
I looked in Google and ArchWiki, but found no solution.
Can you help me, please?
Thanks by now / MJ

I also had some trouble with pulseaudio and skype....when you are in alsamixer, try selecting a "different soundcard" with F6, and then unmute that interface. That's what worked for me, somehow pulseaudio was muting my soundcard....
Trouble was, that I had to do this every time, and I was to lazy to investigate further...so uninstalling pulse did the trick for me
KISS my Arch, Willy Gates!

Thank you.
I already checked in alsamixer, and unmute all the channel both in "pulseaudio" and in "snd-hda-intel".
But still, no sound and no input management is possible.

2 tips > try out model=auto in modprobe
install pavucontrol and check on the inputs there
Are you sure 'bout the soundchip?

Thank you for suggestions.
Nothing works out.
I upload a picture on http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/7882/schermata3p.png to show the very big difference for what I get on gentoo and on arch. There is a control to change the input.
The version of pulse audio is .22 in gentoo and .23 in arch, so here it's newer.

Works here with the exact same soundcard, without any modprobe options.
On Gentoo, indeed, on the input tab I can select from within 3 different input: integrated mic, external mic, line in.
I believe the input is set automatically, i.e. switches from "internal mic" to "mic" as soon as one is plugged in. Those inputs still exist in alsamixer though (docking/internal/mic) - extra sure you unmuted "internal mic"?
P.S.: please use thumbnails.

this is the output of lspci:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
are you sure you got the same card?

Ok, maybe something is "wrong" with alsa. In the capture view I have only: Capture, Internal mic, Mux. All are un-muted.
In gentoo there are: Capture, Capture 1, Digital Mic, Input source (where I can choose Digital Mic, Front Mic and Mic), Input source 1 (same as precedent), Mux and Mux 1.
This is the interesting part of dmesg :
[ 7.778379] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
[ 7.778495] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: irq 50 for MSI/MSI-X
[ 7.778518] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 8.047353] input: HDA Intel Mic at Sep UNKNOWN Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input12
[ 8.047488] input: HDA Intel Mic at Ext Front Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input13
[ 8.047562] input: HDA Intel HP Out at Ext Front Jack as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input14
I really don't know now if the problem is alsa or pulseaudio :S
P.S.: please use thumbnails.
Sorry, I edited the post to hide the image.

Yes, I have exactly the same lspci signature, although dmesg looks a bit different:
# dmesg | grep HDA
[ 7.777534] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
[ 7.777609] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: irq 45 for MSI/MSI-X
[ 7.777638] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 8.038023] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/input/input8
[ 8.039385] input: HDA Intel Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input9
[ 8.039451] input: HDA Intel Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input10
[ 8.039515] input: HDA Intel Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input11
You could kill pulseaudio (pulseaudio --kill) and test the mic as described here to see if the problem is pulseaudio.

I check again dmesg and it's the same of yours.
But it seems like I miss some input control in alsa.
These are the modules loaded:
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 20368 1
snd_hda_codec_idt 48270 1
snd_hda_intel 19261 2
snd_hda_codec 66793 3 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_idt,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 4919 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 60311 3 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer 15542 1 snd_pcm
snd 43527 11 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_idt,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc 5909 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
As soon I get home with a flat internet connection, I can post more information, if it can help.
(Thank you)

I feel SO STUPID.
In alsamixer I'd press SPACE on capture to get it captured.
Now everything works fine.
I believe the input is set automatically, i.e. switches from "internal mic" to "mic" as soon as one is plugged in.
Yes! I tested it, and works that way.
Thank you again.
