Installing GNOME 2 instead of GNOME 3?

How might I go about doing this? I'm a fan of GNOME, but 1) my computer can't quite run 3, and I really like 2.

Is gnome 2 still available to me in the repos, or is this going to be a long and complicated process?

Re: Installing GNOME 2 instead of GNOME 3?

Gnome 3 fallback is pretty similar to gnome 2 (you e.g. don't have the old applets) and should work on any pc gnome 2 would work on. You could theoretically still install gnome 2 in arch, using old packages, but it wouldn't be feasible in the long run. There is some project intended to continue developing and supporting gnome 2, with packages provided for arch, but the name escapes me. Many former gnome 2 users seem to be fond of xfce. Many distros still provide gnome 2, like linux mint, which apparently would like to stick to it - I'm not sure how they plan to go about it.
