Dreaded FileSystem Check Error: Hang On Boot. Is There A Fix?

Hi,

I've gotten a FileSystem Check Error on Boot and it hangs. I've loaded up the Live CD and ran e2fsck -p /dev/sda1 on the root drive and it reports that the drive is clean!

When it hangs it gives me a chance to login to a maintenance shell, but I am unsure what to do from there. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You should try to scan your disk for errors by using a recommended tool from your hard drive manufacturer (Seagate has SeaTools for instance).

I'm also a bit curious on how you shut down your system, and if you get some kind of error messages while doing so.
