Hi,
My motherboard has a Marvell 88SE91xx controller with a firmware version 1.0.0.1029. The controller is used for one internal sata port, one external esata port, and one ide port. It also has an Intel controller providing 6 internal stata ports.
My 2 hard drives are connected to 2 of the Intel controller ports and my IDE CD/DVD drive is connected to the one IDE port.
I can start a boot off a CD no problem at all, however during the boot process when the kernel looks for the root device to mount, it can't find it, thus halting the boot process. This isn't unique to Arch. I suspect that the kernel doesn't have support for the Marvell controller, or another module is loading before the correct one and interfering in some way.
Can any one help?
Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil,
it seems that I have nearly the same problem - my CD doesn't work with the same controller. I'm trying to fix these issues. Maybe here you can find an answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ma … p_chipsets

It seems that it's related to the kernel bug. It is fixed in the latest kernel26-git.
