Hello everyone!
I just registered on this forum. I have been using Arch for a couple of months now, it's my first experience with linux so I often land in situations where I'm confused about what to do. I wanted to learn it "the real way", so that's why I chose a dist that's beyond my experience. I've gained a lot of knowledge by just searching this forum and the wiki. I've looked at some threads for my new problem but I'm not sure what to do so I decided to make my own thread. I hope this will not upset anyone.
Anyway, it all started last night. My system went "read only" for some reason. I thought it was wierd, but I figured I'd just restart it and hope for the best. Here's where the problems started. At boot I get similiar errors as in
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=93107
At first I thought I'd test some of the solutions that where given there, but since I'm never very sure of what I'm really doing I thought I'd reinstall Arch again and not risk ruining more than I already have. Should I test print's solution
# root
# mount /dev/sda7 /mnt
# mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/boot
# mount -t proc none /mnt/proc
# mount -t sysfs none /mnt/sys
# mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
# chroot /mnt
# pacman -S --noconfirm linux-util-ng
# pacman -S kernel26
# reboot
before I go on with the reinstall?
For the reinstall. How should I proceed to loose as little data as possible from my old system? I've put a lot of effert in some websites and configuration files so it would take me a lot of time to do this again. I assume there is some way to only reinstall the parts that are crucial for the system to work? Maybe it's that I accomplish with the solution given above?
I really don't have a clue now and hope some of you could help me out. Maybe I could have posted this in some other thread but it felt better to do a new thread. I hope this isn't breaking any rules.

Just a heads-up:
http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort … =&limit=50
There's no linux-util-ng in the repos anymore so you can't use the same commands.
Even if you system is read-only you should be able to copy all the data out of the if you want to reinstall.

Ah, ok! Thanks for the reply.
So the smartest thing to do is boot up with the installation media, mount the disks and copy the data I need, then just make a clean install? The problem is that my only other two disks is raided with lvm, not sure if I have to any thing fancy before I could go on?

Not sure if it's just a coincidence, but https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122058 somebody else is having such problem too.

I can't really see the connection between this and that thread Anyways, it seems that the easiest solution for me is to somehow save the data I want and just reinstall Arch.
