Linux Hardware Support PCI-E 2.0

Hello, a friend was recently using OpenSUSE, and upgraded his entire system, and states something to do with PCI-E 2.0, and some mixer issues, stating it's to do with the slots, is this the case, or what can he do to solve this issue, I try to help out when I can, and don't really understand what he meant, at first I thought he meant his sound card mixers, he said nothing to do with that, but the slots itself, I'm using a PCI-E 2.0 NVidia Graphics Card, and don't have one issue, maybe there's a work around he could try? Stating he's looked all over, and there is nothing, it has to do with Linux Programmers and not being up-to-date on the hardware these days?  Thanks in advance.

Re: Linux Hardware Support PCI-E 2.0

We'll need more info to figure out what problem your friend has.

- Which kernel version does his OpenSUSE use ?

- What card does have the problem ?

- your friend talks about slots , which suggests the motherboard also plays a role.
What is the brand and type of his motherboard ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I'll have to get the information from him.  For OpenSUSE, he was using the latest one, and no cards are having issues, it's the entire system that doesn't work with his slots, he said mixer before, he claimed I misunderstood what he meant, that's when he said it's not just his graphics and sounds,  but anything that went into this PCI-E 2.0 Slots..

Re: Linux Hardware Support PCI-E 2.0

then the problem is with the PCI-E 2.0 slots  themselves.

I can think of 2 possible problems (but i might overlook others) :

- cards in the PCI-E 2 slots don't work at all
- cards in the pci-e 2 slots work , but only in pci-E 1 mode (slower)

once we know the motherboard brand / model we might be able to help.

It's a Gigabyte, he's not sure what the model is.
