You really need to give us more information, what exactly isn't working for you? Also please change your topic title into something more descriptive.

changed the title, i think the processor is i586, its a thinclient, i got it to boot off USB, but it wont boot any of the latest versions of arch, is there any iso's for an i586 floating about or do i have to make one? if not im looking for a i586 linux distro that doesnt have a GUI, all i want is a bash shell and ssh server (and a nice package manager would be nice)

Since you added that it's an i586 machine, you might want to have a look here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Install_Arch_i586
Moved to Other Architectures.

Boot whatever you can on it and get some info about the processor - then you can decide whether to proceed with Arch or not.

DSL boots fine,
uname -r
2.4.31
uname -p
unknown
uname -a
Linux box 2.4.31 #6 SMP Fri Oct 21 15:15:54 EDT 2005 1586 unknown

And what's the output of 'lscpu' or 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'?
'uname' stuff tells you what system you have installed but not what your hardware is.

Well it's an i586, so you can try the approach suggested on the wiki page or stick with a native i586 distro.

Yup, exactly.
DSL is not developed anymore so you may want to try slitaz or tinycore or some other light distro, because that 200 MHz ain't much these days.

im downloading tinycore wow 10mb? thats ridiculous but it might be exactly what i want. all i want is an SSH server in a small package, no desktop environment, no window manager nothing. just SSH and bash. mabe run a few small c programs i wrote. lol
