Intermittent kernel panic with USB mass storage

When I have a USB mass storage device, either plugged in at boot or plugged in after, I will usually but not always get a kernel panic.  Unfortunately I can only get this much of the trace:

I've tried a few things to get more (modesetting is probably the most promising but I just get a blank screen with that, ssh still works)

kernel: 2.6.32-lts
udev: 171-2
AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor
4GB RAM
BIOSTAR TA790GX XE AM2+/AM3 AMD 790GX motherboard

Re: Intermittent kernel panic with USB mass storage

While this issue seems gone on the normal kernel, the -lts kernel still has this issue as of version 2.6.32.42-1
