As this screenshot shown,this issue has bothered me for a long time.
What 's the problem ? Is it a bug or some thing else?

It's been fixed in gtk 2.6.8. Time to do an update... 8)

My arch box was up to date when I took the screenshot
[jay@arch ~]$ pacman -Q gtk2
gtk2 2.6.8-1

Hmm.... seems like a permissions issue maybe?
Try checking the permissions of your /usr/share/themes directory and its sub-directories.

As you can see in the screenshot ,I was log in as root.
So permissions is not the problem.

Hmm, weird. I don't have this problem on my system, but on the archlinux booth I could reproduce it on the demo machines.

You know, you really, really should not use the GUI as root... When you do, all applications you start have root privaleges. It's a huge security risk.

You can do that through a terminal as root.
I also had this issue the last time I loaded up GNOME.

ha and I thought i was the only one with this issue.
It was working a week or 2 ago, so I guess it was messed up with an update.

Hmm... here is some terminal output although I do not know if it will help.
keevn@fygor:: gnome-theme-manager [~]
(gnome-theme-manager:7642): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_drawable_set_colormap: assertion `cmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (drawable) == cmap->visual->depth' failed
(gnome-theme-manager:7642): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_get_qdata: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(gnome-theme-manager:7642): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_colormap_get_visual: assertion `GDK_IS_COLORMAP (colormap)' failed
(gnome-theme-manager:7642): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_visual_get_screen: assertion `GDK_IS_VISUAL (visual)' failed
(gnome-theme-manager:7641): capplet-common-WARNING **: Received EOF while reading thumbnail for gtk: 'Simple', metacity 'Simple', icon: 'gnome', font: 'Sans 10'
Perhaps we could all try using another version of GTK, or GLib. Other than that, the output is not telling me much. Hopefully it tells someone else something useful.
