Manjaro Linux Distribution

Hi all
I am working now since a longer time on my arch linux livecd. It is called manjaro linux and uses the Desktop Environment Xfce. I uploaded a first testing livecd which is very experimental and many features are still missing. I would be thankful for any bugs reported,.... or if somebody wants to help and join the project he is always welcome.

Edit: Back again. Check out our blog wink

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Thank you very much. I thought about your idea once. It is a nice aspect. My idea was to create a netinstall livecd with this options. I will realize it when the xfce livecd is stable.
Did you install the system in vbox?

and.. why samba instelled ? (and service started even if delayed with @ )

now i will test the live on my netbook ( packard bell vr46, a clone of  Acer Aspire 1410 )

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

ok.. first serius issue

i got the same issue with standard archlinux cd, that why i am now using the archboot cdrom when installing arch on this netbook

the error message at boot is

Waiting for boot device...
ERROR: boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds...
Failing back to interactive prompt
You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finisched
/bin/sh: can't access tty: job controll turned off
[ramfs /]#

i dont' know how archboot is working.. but for my netbook it's the only solution

blkid found all my partitions whithout problems

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

gpk-application is the gnome-packagekit project. It is available in the arch repos. I found one bug which will be fixed in the next release. To use gpk-application you first have to update the package database. Otherwise it won't find any packages. That is a good point with samba. I added it a long time ago and left it. In the next release it will be thrown out to get some more space for other programs. A settings manager is also planed.

now i will test the live on my netbook

I am already excited if it will run.

P.S. btw i already use xcfe as my DE

Yeah xfce is the best DE and a great project.

Edit: Hmm. Thats strange. I will take a look at the archboot sources. Thx for testing.
Edit2: Archboot runs in Ram without any squashfs. That is why it is working on your netbook.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Hmm. I am using the Iso Label 'MANJAROLINUX'. Very strange why it does not work on netbooks.

Could you please try:

ln -sf /dev/sr0 /dev/archiso
exit

You don't have to replicate the error. Unitbootin is messing around with the filesystem labels.

works very well! (the live medium, i will not install .. sorry)

wink Great that it works. Is the display resolution ok and does it use the right graphics driver?

handled well without a problem!

using gparted i have reformatted the usb, and using unetbootin reinstalled majaro on the pen drive
now it works!
maybe there was some file leftover on pen from other os.... sorry for false trouble!

i will start playing with the live majaro

thanks again

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

one more tips:

the message about root password it's invisible.. since the desktop load.. i saw it only when rebooting tongue

put a readme.txt on desktop...

BHH

EDIT: since you are using already firefox, wouldn't be better using thunderbird and not balsa ?

Uff, I am lucky wink

the message about root password it's invisible.. since the desktop load.. i saw it only when rebooting

It is there, if you boot in runlevel 3.

put a readme.txt on desktop...

Actually thats a good point. I will display a messagebox or infobox on startup. >> Added it already to the TODO list.

EDIT: since you are using already firefox, wouldn't be better using thunderbird and not balsa ?

That is a matter of size. Thunderbird is more than the double of the size as balsa. If I get enough space from throwing out samba, I will change balsa to thunderbird.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

first pacman -Syu

:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: filesystem and filesystem-manjaro are in conflict. Remove filesystem-manjaro? [y/N]

it's isn't a good thing..

it's save/useful to keep your repository on pacman.conf ?

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

@buzzqw: The problen with the nvidia driver is known. It is already fixed for the new release. The grub resolution and external /boot partition error is new to me. I will check it out. Thx for reporting!

The problem with the filesystem-manjaro conflict is already mentioned in the german forum. Still don't understand it, because filesystem-manjaro has the variable provides=('filesystem')?! It is important to leave the manjaro repo in pacman.conf. The xorg configuration script and other tools are online on that server.

Thx that you don't give up wink. The new iso needs still some days, because there are a lot of bugs to fix.
