DVD authoring programs and Mencoder failures

I used to be able to easily create DVDs using Devede, ManDVD, 2ManDVD, qdvdauthor, etc. on my x86_64 machine.

However, since Mencoder was last updated a week or two ago I haven't been able to create DVDs since.  When it comes to transcoding the movies I have in there, it skips every frame.  I've tried the MPlayer2 package and the MPlayer-33713-1 package - neither works. 

It literally skips every frame, and depending on my options it will report either success after 30 seconds for a 2 hour movie, or it will report a bug in Mencoder. 

I've tried (1) transcoding different types of audio, (2) telling it to use the ac3 track already in the movie without transcoding, (3) resizing the video, (4) upgrading Devede to use the "ac3_fixed" option rather than just the ac3 option...  I can't think of all teh other types I've tried now - but it seems I've tried them all.

I'm transcoding a h.264 video with aac audio on one track and ac3 on another track.

Before it skips every frame, this is the error I get when using Devede, using the ac3_fixed option and telling it not to retranscode the audio on the ac3 track:

Update:

The last update of Mplayer2 has not fixed the problem.

Maybe a problem in the muxer?  I really can't tell.  Everyone else is able to create DVDs from h.264 & ac3 movies?

As of the latest x86_64 update of Mencoder (33805-1), the problem is still there.

 BUG! Invalid demuxer type in new_demuxer(), big troubles ahead.[ac3_fixed @ 0xd4 MEncoder SVN-r33805-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team 

I think that's what the problem is, but I might be misreading it.

I've "fixed" it by moving to DVDStyler, which relies on ffmpeg, for the time being.  Although DVDStyler is nice, I still prefer Devede.

Let's hope the "complete re-write" of mencoder is begun soon, and it really does make things better.

Wow - thank you very much for finding that.  I did have a quick poke around in those forums, but apperantly I didn't look thorough enough.

That is good news though, I very much look forward to using Devede again. Mencoder's transcodes always looked slightly better to me, but if the code is a mess the code is a mess.
