Hi, first off I wanna start saying that I went trough this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=722718 and didnt work for me, or maybe I didnt get it right.
I cant get nethack-qt to work on my arch laptop with gnome3, I get the following error:

I have no idea where to start debugging this, also I would like to contact the author to see if I can update the package seems like it needs some love

You stated that you can't get it to build on your Arch laptop; does this imply that you have built on some other machine?
Contacting the author is the best choice in this situation, imho. Until you get a response, you can either try and debug it yourself, or sit back and look at some lolcats.
