i use the core, extra, and community repos and when i do pacman -Syu firefox i get the old 3.6.8 version. when i grab the newest version from www.getfirefox.com it comes as a .tar.bz2 file which just extracts there is no installer. where should this be places? /usr/local/?

Re: [solved] no firefox 5 in repo

You should use the packages provided by the repos.
Grab a fresh mirrorlist http://www.archlinux.org/mirrorlist/ , run 'pacman -Syyu' and try again.
