Changing GDM theme

FORWARD/FYI/PROTIP: I have googled this topic repeatedly, read various threads on these boards and others with no results. Please do not tell me to use google or search these forums or this will turn into a flame war very quick.

Gentoo to Debian to Ubuntu to Arch user. Trying to change the GDM theme and I'm consistently stuck with the same theme. I've tried using gconftool-2 and gconf-editor to edit /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme as gdm with no luck. I've tried gnome-tweak-tool as gdm with some results, but I only get to choose between four different themes, not all of the themes in /usr/share/themes are listed. Running gdm2setup doesn't do anything noticeable and running gnome-control-center as gdm only lets me change the background image.

Ultimately, I'd like to change the GDM theme to a theme where I can specify which DE I want to use and have the last used DE set to default. Right now, GDM uses GNOME as default and I want to use Enlightnment/E17.

Help? Thanks.

Re: Changing GDM theme

You sure you read through this?
Anyway, if GDM doesn't satisfy you try one of the other login managers.

Re: Changing GDM theme

Yeah, already did. I've spent hours pouring over the wiki, especially the GDM, Display managers, and GNOME pages. Thanks anyways.

Re: Changing GDM theme

You can try gdm3setup in AUR.

Re: Changing GDM theme

Perhaps GDM now requires GTK3 themes? There isn't a whole lot of choice though.

Re: Changing GDM theme

No luck with gdm3setup, but I'll keep playing with it. Thanks.

Try this:

ewaller@odin:~[1] 1002 %sudo xhost +SI:localuser:gdm
Password:
localuser:gdm being added to access control list
ewaller@odin:~ 1003 %sudo -u gdm gnome-control-center
ewaller@odin:~ 1004 %

Missed that -- Sorry.
