Hello,
i'm using CUPS for printing on my HP Deskjet 840C connected via USB cable.
When i try to print a document, nothing happens and in my dmesg output serveral error lines appear:
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 2434 (usb) did not claim interface 1 before use
The process 2434 is:
usb://HP/DESKJET%20840C?serial=...
What could be the problem? I already have the module usblp blacklisted with a /etc/modprobe.d/ .conf file.
Thnx
Fat

After upgrading the CUPS package, you also need to modify the /etc/rc.conf
You should replace
DAEMONS=(... cups ...) by
DAEMONS=(...cupsd...)

I already have that in my rc.conf, so CUPS is definitely running.

Any hint?

Ok, i downgraded the cups package to 1.4.6-4 and now it works again.

I had a similar issue with my usb printer not working after a cups update (don't remember which version caused the problem). Blacklisting usblp solved this for me, there is now a section in the CUPS Wiki concerning this.

For a Samsung printer I blacklisted usblp and it is working but I have an odd problem. Some times it is not printing. I have to unplug the printer and plug int back into the usb port. Any ideeas?

You should start your own thread about this if you wish to solve it. Fwiw I have a networked Samsung, not plugged in anywhere with a usb cable just an ethernet cable, and it works very well.
