Adobe Flash Plugin Full Screen Scaling

hello, i already searched the forums and the internet, but couldn't find a solution :<

well i'll post the screenshot first, to show you my problem:

201004270112483200x1080.th.png

left side is a terminal with scrot (1280x1024) and the right side is a fullscreen youtube with 720p on an 1920x1080 screen
as you can see, the video is in its native resolution instead of being stretched/scaled to the full 1080p. the same happens with smaller resoultions (340p 480p on youtube for example) just fullHD videos on youtube are "real" fullscreen (who would have thought that ...)
the rest of the screen just turns black and nothing happens. the same thing happens with other flash videos (vimeo, myvideo, mtv.com etc.)

so my question is: how to make the flashplugin stretch the videos instead of just blanking the screen?

i'm using a 64-bit system with adobe flashplayer 10.0.45.2-1 and firefox 3.6.3 (but it was the same with previous versions of flash and firefox and even the same on 32-bit) and a nvidia graphicscard with the prop. nvidia driver (ver 195.36.15-2). my windowmanager is xmonad, but there is no problem with other fullscreen windows (like VLC fullscreen windows and similar stuff)

Same issue here on 32bit, it seems to happen just on youtube+nvidia+dual head setup via twinview

Re: Adobe Flash Plugin Full Screen Scaling

Since no real answer came up, i've got another Question:

I've recently seen a Video on viddler.com (example: http://www.viddler.com/explore/PSBlogEU/videos/525/ )
and there fullscreen scaling just works fine, even tho nothing realy changed (for example youtube still doesn't scale right.

So where's the difference between these sites or the implemantion of their flash videos?

how about the codec used in the videos themselves?

Yeah, almost. I've seen this on other Flash sites too (I think I was watching E3 videos on Gamespot). I was on twinview outputting to my 1080i TV via Component, and it did a similar thing. Here's the thing, it did it on Windows too! I think Flash is to blame here...(nothing new) I tried VLC and it went in to full screen on my TV fine (though it was a little slow because I don't have VDPAU set up right lol).

Same issue here with twinview.

Not really a solution, but for youtube you can use the HTML5 version (http://www.youtube.com/html5) which does support fullscreen on my box. Of course, right now this requires use of FF4 (I use firefox-nightly from AUR).

Re: Adobe Flash Plugin Full Screen Scaling

And you could also try out lightspark and/or gnash. Both are alternative implementations of flash and both have had good reviews. The newest version of gnash (just added to the repo) claims 100% compatibility with youtube iirc (http://gnashdev.org/). Lightspark is the up-and-coming implementation with opengl-support and has a fallback to gnash iirc (http://allievi.sssup.it/techblog/)

Zl.
PS: I'm pro HTML5, but in the meantime you just need to have a working flashplayer...

Re: Adobe Flash Plugin Full Screen Scaling

This issue only appears to be the case in a dual head setup...

Anyone found an actual way to fix this, or is using something else than flashplugin the only option?

Re: Adobe Flash Plugin Full Screen Scaling

Hi Cafaro,

This is  (almost) a year old thread and a lot with Flash has changed in that time.  I also don't recall seeing the OP post lately.

Please see the policy on necrobumping

My suggestion would be to please start a new thread in which you state your problem, the versions of the pertinent software you're running (flash, video driver, kernel, X, etc...) and what you have found in your research.

Thanks, and welcome to Arch.
