I'd expected to see a bunch of posts here and there, maybe some AUR posted somewhere with the new 3.0x release.
but nothing, it's true that its nothing more than 2.6.40 but I do remember being somehow thrilled when trying new major number releases, 2.2,2.4,2.6.

Actually kernel26-mainline in AUR is kernel 3.0. It's just not decided to rename it.
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=39965
These packages are available as binaries in miffe's unofficial repositories:
[miffe]
Server = http://arch.miffe.org/$arch/
But I need to compile it with my own config because I need CONFIG_ATH9K_PCI=y which seems still not to be set by default. Otherwise than that it works great.
So this is my post about kernel 3.0...

OK, people move along....nothing to see here, just a regular kernel release.

Just intalled kernel-mainline, 3.0rc7, from AUR, booted into it and then installed nvidia-mainline. Seems to work really well.

So uh, yeah, Linus just pushed out 3.0!!!

no aur package for the real-time patched?

What real-time patched? There's a few rt-kernels, though I don't think any of them are up to 3.0 due to the RT patchset just having updated a few days ago and being decidedly experimental as a complete rewrite.

Thanks, I didn't even notice .
And I turned 30 this year, just like the kernel. Have a feeling we're gonna be friends for a long time.

Hope it doesn't make you feel old but you are ten years older than the kernel.

I tried to look at the default kernelconfig and did I understand correctly that CONFIG_ATH9K_PCI is disabled?

I don't know anything about this ATH9K entry, but my Atheros wireless card isn't working with the new kernel. Trying to recompile with modified config to see if it works.
Anyways it's working good except that issue.

Line 1970, x86_64 config file for 3.0:
CONFIG_ATH9K_PCI=y
And:
$ zgrep CONFIG_ATH9K_PCI /proc/config.gz
$ uname -r
2.6.39-ARCH
No such thing as CONFIG_ATH9K_PCI in 2.6.39 .

I compiled the kernel from AUR, now it's working good and took the right .config from the old one.
