since a few months I've got this problem:
Today I just wanted to skype a lil' bit with my friend in Zürich. Suddenly my keyboard stopped working. I managed to get it working again just by plug it in again.
The problem appears only when I start my webcam. For example over skype. I've got also my microphone over the webcam, but that works fine in skype so far and doesn't block my keyboard. But when I start the webcam, after few seconds my keyboard stops working.
I thought it could be a problem with the usb plugging. so I tried plugging the webcam over a USB-Hub or both, keyboard and webcam over the hub, but that didn't change anything.
I googled so fare for a very long time and found nothing helpful.
I've got a Logitech USB Illuminated Keyboard and a Logitech USB Webcam C200.
Here is my lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 033: ID 046d:c318 Logitech, Inc. Illuminated Keyboard
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 046d:c051 Logitech, Inc. G3 (MX518) Optical Mouse
Bus 002 Device 036: ID 046d:0802 Logitech, Inc. Webcam C200
Couldn't find any helpful error messages till now.
Appreciate every help.

I might be completely off with this, but I just thought that if a udev-rule is made to identify the webcam and it is looking for the manufacturer-string 'Logitech', then it might mistake the keyboard for the webcam.
Worth a shot to take a look at?

The strange thing is... when I start the webcam in skype, it actually works, but after few seconds my keyboard locks himself.
But Using the webcam as audio input only for skype without activating the video input, there are no issues.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 64 2.6.38-10-generic
Not errors in syslog, kernlog, or Xorglog when I fire up the webcam and the keyboard locks up. Must reboot to get the keyboard to respond to anything.

I could solve the problem.
It was the same also for me on Ubuntu 11.04 x86_64 Live CD. WIth i386 there were no issues.
The Problem could be solved for me putting the Webcam or the Keyboard on a separate USB-Bus. I bought a 4 Port USB Controler (PCI) and installed it in my client. I plugged there my Webcam, and now, I've got no more problems.
My lsusb output changed:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:0802 Logitech, Inc. Webcam C200
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:c318 Logitech, Inc. Illuminated Keyboard
As you can see the Illuminated Keyboard and the Webcam are on two different USB-Bus now.
For you it's the same as it was for me a few months ago. You've got your webcam and keyboard on the same Bus. The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard seems to have this issue with x86_64.
