[Solved] Nvidia-utils 275.09.07-1, Xorg 1.10.2 & nvidia-lts = breakage

A few days back I upgraded my HTPC (which runs kernel26-lts), only to find X segfaulting on the nVidia driver that comes with nvidia-utils (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so).

I tried rebuilding both nvidia-utils and nvidia-lts, but the segfault remains. Rolling back to the previoius 270.x.x package 'fixes' it. Pointers are appreciated.

Thanks, but this is a different problem. X segfaults, so I get no X server at all.

Re: [Solved] Nvidia-utils 275.09.07-1, Xorg 1.10.2 & nvidia-lts = breakage

Hmm, I had the same problem with the latest Nvidia/Xorg packages recently; I read somewhere that the newest nvidia drivers only work with the latest kernel26 package (2.6.39.1), and indeed upgrading my kernel solved the problem for me. Try ditching your kernel26-lts package...

Re: [Solved] Nvidia-utils 275.09.07-1, Xorg 1.10.2 & nvidia-lts = breakage

Thanks for that info, but the nvidia-lts packages are supposed to work with the kernel26-lts kernels. That's the sole reason of existence of nvidia-lts tongue.

Do you remember where you found that info? If so I can open a bug report so the nvidia-lts package can be reverted to 270.x.x.

Oops, I did not read carefully. The machine that I got working again was using the regular nvidia and kernel26 packages...

I have a feeling that I was hallucinating about reading about it on the web... sorry. Ah, I remember now --- it was this totally unrelated thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=933318 and the issue was a nvidia vs. the new xorg 1.10 series compatibility. Sorry for the noise...

Anyway, you should post xorg logs so others can compare...

Re: [Solved] Nvidia-utils 275.09.07-1, Xorg 1.10.2 & nvidia-lts = breakage

Since using the main kernel package (actually, linux 3.0.0 from Testing) and nvidia drivers (also from Testing) gave the same issues, I tried without Xorg.conf, and it turns out one of the nVidia-specific options was the culprit. Commenting it out fixed it.
