Cannot reboot?

Running 2.6.39.3-1 and I can't reboot my HP nx6110 laptop as it just hangs at restarting, normal shutdown/halt/poweroff works fine but not reboot or shutdown -r now. I've even tried kernel line options like reboot=b/h.

Re: Cannot reboot?

Perhaps you should post more info about the 'HANG"  in order for others to analyze the situation at that point.

Using consolekit/dbus does exactly the same thing as well.

If you guys need to see any other of my config files let me know.

EDIT: Just for the record, this happens when logged in as root as well.

Re: Cannot reboot?

I get this problem unless I boot with reboot=pci in my kernel args.  I'm no expert though.

Re: Cannot reboot?

Nope, reboot=pci does not work.

EDIT: I've filed a bug report for this, https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25292

Re: Cannot reboot?

I have the exact same issue. Very annoying.

EDIT: And I'm on an HP nx8220.

At last, someone else with the same problem, now I'm not alone anymore. I find it extremely annoying not being able to do a reboot.

Please vote for my bug report and add your comments about make/model etc and what you have tried.

I just booted the install media again and I can reboot from that so something must have happened after the initial install.

Re: Cannot reboot?

Just to add I enabled the [testing] repo and installed the latest linux 3.0-2 kernel and the problem is still present.

Re: Cannot reboot?

I happened to run across an ancient blog

http://blogarchiv.4momo.de/?id=show_db&ca=other&ct=123

It suggested:

Append reboot=b to the kernel line in menu.lst for the appropriate kernel entries.

I do not know if this helps as I do not have an Compaq nx6110 smile

My laptop was able to power off (shutdown -h now) but could not restart (reboot or shutdown -r now). Thanks, your solution solved my problem.
