evince-3.0.0 CPU usage

Since evince was updated to version 3.0.0, I expierence extremely high CPU usage from both evince and X (each ~50%) when I'm viewing any document in evince (tested with pdf, ps, dvi). First I thought it would be a gtk3 related problem since this seems to be the most obvious change, but gtk3-demo (the only other gtk3 app I have) does not show such a behaviour.

Any ideas where this comes from or/and how to fix this?

Are you sure the problem is caused by Evince?
On my system, CPU is idle when only viewing and the load hardly increases when changing pages. Only tested with .pdf by the way.

Are you using 64 bit arch? I think this is a known bug for the 64 bit version...

I am using 64bit Arch forgot to mention that in my original reply.
Perhaps also relevant: I do not use a DE. Just straight Openbox with very little gnome stuff. Perhaps the OP's issue might be with one of the gnome support libraries?

Re: evince-3.0.0 CPU usage

Yes I am using 64 bit arch.
I did not find a matching bug report - on my system, evince does neither hang nor react slowly as it seems to be the case in all bugreports I studied. But it still uses a lot of cpu time, together with X. The only real problem that this causes is that my battery is quickly exhausted...

@creatid: interesting, I am using Openbox (in LXDE) as well. I doubt that its gnome-library related problem: I just tested opening the same document in evince once normally and once in Xnest (using twm). No idea why, but the process running in Xnest did not exhibit high cpu load... this is so weird.

Edit: just checked: running evince in twm on ordinary X (not Xnest) works fine as well. The problem seems to be something in Openbox... any idea?

I am experiencing the same problem. The problem came up with the last upgrade of evince to version 3.0.0. I am using a 32bit arch, and my DE is GNOME3.

I get the same problem with 64bit and XMonad. (although I tried to install gnome3 some weeks ago and gave up on it.)

Re: evince-3.0.0 CPU usage

I have the same problem when viewing documents that only reside in /tmp (e.g. reading PDFs opened using firefox). As soon as I save them to another place (e.g. somewhere in my /home), CPU consumption sinks.

/tmp and /home are on the same hdd, but this might help narrow down the problem.
