Problem converting videos to Xvid

Anyone else having problems converting various video formats to Xvid? I've tried mencoder, transcode (and various GUIs) and AviDemux but still nothing. Mencoder doesn't even list Xvid codec, gtranscode won't give any codecs to use and AviDemux handles all the other formats just fine.

I'm guessing xvidcore could be broken, any suggestions?

Time to answer my own question, hope this helps..

I just re-compiled mplayer with

--with-xvidlibdir=/usr/lib

and that did the trick.
