I just updated today, and KDE 4.7 was part of it. I removed my .kde4 folder so I can get a fresh customization, and when I logged in, KDE 4.7 barely works. I am able to log in and launch programs, but there is no wallpaper (and if I set a wallpaper manually, it doesn't appear), several plasmoids don't even appear (such as the pager). I found in these forums that I'm supposed to install kde-wallpapers, and I did, but it didn't fix anything. I also figured that maybe my mirror wasn't updated so I redid my mirrorlist using the mirrorlist generator and there were no newer packages. Is this broken for anyone else?

No , it's working fine with my test user , wich i created specifically for testing KDE 4.7 beta's and RC's , and i also succesfully migrated my main users account (which i didn't use with KDE since 4.6.2) - only had some troubles with strigi , but it's working fine now

I wish it were working for me. I installed it on my other machine and I'm not having the wallpaper problem, but I'm having others. For example, if I rightclick the desktop and click "add widgets", nothing happens. I have to add widgets through the panel. The pager still doesn't work, and it crashes whenever I rightclick the desktop and click "desktop settings". I hope it's just me, otherwise this might be the worst KDE release since KDE 4.0.x.

Pager plasmoid does not appear unless you have 2 or more virtual desktops configured. The default configuration in 4.7 is 1 desktop. Try increasing this number in system settings - workspace behavior.

Thanks, that solves that one. Here are the other problems I'm having, wondering if these are simple fixes too:
1.) No wallpaper on my laptop, even if I select one manually
2.) Crashes every time I right click the desktop and select "Desktop Settings."
3.) If I rightclick the desktop and click "add widgets," nothing happens.
4.) The stupid cashew icon on the top right of the screen is larger and I hope there is a way to get rid of it, it's more of an eyesore now than ever before.

Works as expected for me. Indeed it did right through the beta stage

2.) Crashes every time I right click the desktop and select "Desktop Settings."
This also used to happen to me all the time in RC1 & 2, but stopped in Final.
Beginning to think that xorg from [testing] might have fixed the issue, but can't be sure.

For me, KDM is somewhat broken. No background and KDM crashes after a few seconds (if I not log in fast enough).

I don't use KDE, but maybe this announcement will help you sort it out.

1.) No wallpaper on my laptop, even if I select one manually
#pacman -S kde-wallpapers
Will help. - You might also be missing 'konq-plugins'
2.) Crashes every time I right click the desktop and select "Desktop Settings."
Hit alt+f2 and enter:
kquitapp plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop
I found out that this will at least fix it for the current session.
3.) If I rightclick the desktop and click "add widgets," nothing happens.
No idea what to do didn't run into this issue
4.) The stupid cashew icon on the top right of the screen is larger and I hope there is a way to get rid of it, it's more of an eyesore now than ever before.
Drag and drop the cashew into the corner and it will be small again.
Cheers.

Thanks guys, I think I'm down to the desktop settings crash and the add widgets dialog not showing up.

2.) Crashes every time I right click the desktop and select "Desktop Settings."
Confirm this. Restart plasma-desktop help in current session. I reproduce this with clean home directory of another user.

hi people
i installed kde with 'pacman -S kde' but i noticed that some packages were not installed...these were the new packages "degraphics-ksaneplugin, kdegraphics-strigi-analyzer,
kdegraphics-svgpart, kdegraphics-thumbnailers, libkdcraw, libkexiv2,libkipi, libksane" , the kde-meta-... packages and and kdebindings packages...i don't know if some of them or all of them should be included in 'pacman -S kde' ( or if i did something wrong). Also i noticed that the version of kde-meta-... packages is 4.7-1 and not 4.7.0-1 like the rest of the packages ( again i don't know if it should or shouldn't be like this)
My problem is that the oxygen widget style doesn't work for me...although before the upgrade i used the oxygen widget when i rebooted my computer it changed to bespin...and now i can use every other widget except oxygen....

kde-meta is a separate group

I'm just doing debug builds of kdebase-workspace, kdelibs and if needed qt so that I can get a more complete backtrace, have you reported this as a bug to the kde or arch bugtrackers? If you have, could you post a link to the report, if not then I'll report once I've got the full backtraces and post a link here.

i think i fixed my issue with the oxygen style by reinstalling kdebase-workspace...

I have not found anything like it.
I create topic on the Russian Linux forum and no one has this bug.

Only issue I have is similar to jlacroix number 2 except I select "Desktop Settings" and if I change the layout from Desktop to:
- Folder View
- Search and Launch
All works fine.
If I change it to:
- Grid
- Grouping
plasma crashes.
Unfortunate since I only used to use grid layout.
Can others confirm grid layout is working for them?
Any idea on how to try workaround this?
I tried:
rm -rf .kde4/share/apps/plasm*
rm -f .kde4/share/config/plasm*
rm -f .kde4/share/config/activitymanagerrc
kquitapp plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop
But the above hasn't helped.

looks like it's a known issue upstream
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/packages/show/363110
ubuntu I think have taken the upstream patch and applied it to 4.7.
Could/Would Arch do that?

upstream bug with fix https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278222
We might have to wait for 4.7.1 to get this. Pitty grid layout is my main desktop layout.

With the release of KDE 4.7.1 of yesterday this problem was fixed.
I'm wondering what our options are to apply an upstream bugfix ourselves. Preferably with an AUR package.
