I just installed my first Arch Linux machine and I realized I need to increase my root partition size. How can I do this without re-installing.
P.S. I am a complete noob so a step-by-step guide would be nice

And what did google tell you? Have you even searched this forum?

I have but again I am new so I don't understand a lot of what people are talking about. And I also don't just want to clean up my root partition, I want to make it larger.

The discussion focused not only on keeping your /root clean, but also on having separate partitions for /var/ and /usr (or not).

fr0k1d, Arch is all about trying things out, learning and making an effort. There is a lot of information about partitioning (including resizing) on the forums, the wiki and on Google, so if you are determined to do that instead of reinstalling, start by searching yourself and only report here if you run into specific questions or problems.
If you do have specific questions, tell us what you have tried so far, which information you have acquired and where you are stuck.

Thank you for the comments. I do have a question though. If I use the gparted live cd can I shrink my home partition and increase my root partion without damaging any of my data?

There's a warning on the gparted live cd page that says
CAUTION: Creating a whole disk or partition image backup is recommended before you resize or move a partition.
for a reason. You'll probably be all right, but in case anything happens, you better have your backups ready.
Google was kind enough to find a pretty detailed guide http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux … ionsdth-LX

How long it takes depends on the size of your partitions. It's often much faster to reinstall ;P
Please remember to mark this thread as solved.
