this is just a thread to see if anyone would be interested in starting a clan for arclinux in the online multiplayer game RTCW-ET if interested post a reply and if any info on the game is needed pm me or check for me on the #archlinux irc channel. We all know arch is a great distro let's show em what a great gaming distro it can be too. FYI there is a gentoo clan and I would really love to kick there um well you know......

yea i'm in with that...
a really great game....
and i would also suggest a clan TAG :
/dev/arch/dariball <-- while /dev/arch/ is clan tag )
/dev/arch/freedomzen seems nice too
come on guys let's make the best ET clan ever
nothing,
maybe I have a perfect signature _someday_

I think that's a good idea for a clan tag I just would reccomend another {AL} in blue and black the colors of our famed distro {AL}Dariball, {AL}FreedomZen, {AL}RedOverBlue.... tell me what u think

{AL}gamesareforkids
AKA uknowme

{AL} <--- looks for me like AL Bundy )
we could /(blue)dev/(black)arch/FreedomZen ???
and sarah31: don't u know all men are kids while playing with high-tech toys....
nothing,
maybe I have a perfect signature _someday_

dariball does have a point...

I think the /dev/arch/ thing is a rather good idea. It would certainly stand out.
/dev/arch/.:GUN-KATA:.
However, it might be a bit long.
I was trying to think of a way to represent an arch using ascii characters, perhaps something like:
{/^}.:GUN-KATA:.
BTW - I go by .:GUN-KATA:. in ET. Infact, I'm thinking of changing to that instead of red_over_blue. I've had red_over_blue for a couple years now, and am thinking it is time for a change.

but i would choose something more nerdish for the clan name )
like we /dev/arch/player1
or /arch/et/ttys0
or maybe we just take the hexdezimal representiation of arch as clan name or the utf encoding in plain binary style )
nothing,
maybe I have a perfect signature _someday_

I have created an Arch Linux Enemy Territory Clan Wiki, which can be found here. If you join the clan, talk to me on #archlinux on freenode and I'll give you the username and password. It is password protected so that enemy Covert Ops cannot steal our tactics If you join the clan, please feel free to add pages or edit the ones that are there, that's the whole point of a wiki after all.
Anyway, anyone else interesting in joining? It is going to be alot of fun, but we could use another 3 or 4 members to get this thing going.

Well, some of you might have noticed that the xqf package in the repos doesn't support ET 2.56. xqf can be used to find servers without having to actually run ET, a nice tool when trying to organize a game on irc.
I made a package for the cvs version of xqf and am hosting it on my machine. I won't put it in incoming since xqf isn't actually out of date, it just doesn't do what we want it to
Once installed, go into Preferences -> Games -> Enemy Territory -> Options and change the "Master Protocol Version" to 83
Download the cvs package and install with pacman here:
http://26rca.zapto.org/misc/arch/xqf-cvs-1.pkg.tar.gz
or use this PKGBUILD and build your own:
pkgname=xqf
pkgver=cvs
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="XQF is a Quake/Quake World/Quake2/Quake3 server browser and launcher for X11"
depends=('gtk' 'qstat' 'gdk-pixbuf')
source=(http://www.fragit.net/files/xqf-current.tar.gz)
url="http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/"
build() {
cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-current
./configure --prefix=/usr
make || return 1
make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install
}
