Problem with Nvidia or Flash.... Computer locks up

My computer occasionally locks up when I try to play some flash video (at the start or in the middle of playing) or when I try to exit from playing flash video.

I am using flashplugin-prerelease 11.0.1.60-4 and nvidia 275.21-1. I am using Nvidia 220 card. (running KDE)

On my this desktop, I never see Nvidia splash screen and it kind of worries me if nvidia driver actually never loads at the boot time.

Anyone had this similar problem?

Re: Problem with Nvidia or Flash.... Computer locks up

This happens to me as well either with 275 series driver or the 280 beta one. 270 seems fine. It's quite random but always happens with flash video.
Possibly interesting entry in Xorg.0.log. Check out if you have such output when the lockup occurs.

I'm also having that problem on x86_64.

Re: Problem with Nvidia or Flash.... Computer locks up

I've heard that disabling Hardware Encoding in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg fixes this issue (I have it enabled on my GT 430 with no problems, but for many people it's buggy). My brother had the same problem and I believe that's what fixed it for him. Also, using the non beta version (with nspluginwrapper) fixes it too, but I'd rather use a 64 bit plugin so try the other thing first.

Re: Problem with Nvidia or Flash.... Computer locks up

I was also having this issue. I ended up installing the 32-bit version of flash from the multilib repository.
It never froze the whole computer for me, just X. So I just SSHed into the machine and got things working again.

And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found.

(just disable hw acc in flash options or in /etc/adobe.mms and it'll stop)
