Suspend issues

Hey I've been having an issue with suspend for a while now on my HP Elitebook 8540w. Sometimes it works perfectly but other times after resuming from suspend it'll just be a black screen with the underscore blinking indicating I can type. If I change to tty1 and login and then switch back to tty7 then it just goes back to my desktop and everything is fine except for the fact that I can no long suspend again until I restart my computer. I'm sorry if this is kinda confusing but any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I have this problem in both Gnome and KDE

Re: Suspend issues

Maybe, you can try pm-utils - http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/pm-utils/

Install and then check manpages for pm-suspend and pm-hibernate

Yeah I've already looked through this. Thank you though.

I'm reading through the man pages and the readmes in /usr/doc but I'm not sure how I can make use of it

Re: Suspend issues

Just try to suspend PC via pm-suspend. You can also use QUIRKS, everything should be in manpages, but i am not sure.

Re: Suspend issues

What method of suspend are you using? Kernel, Uswsusp? pm-utils? Can you provide your relevant config files? And your wifi chip?

GNU/Linux: Keep your options "open".

Re: Suspend issues

Well I leave suspend up to gnome-power-manager and I'm pretty sure it uses pm-suspend.
Wifi chip:

44:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (rev 35)

/etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module:

SUSPEND_MODULES=“xhci”

/etc/pm/sleep.d/90alsa:

#!/bin/sh
#
# 90alsa: suspend/wakeup ALSA devices

case "$1" in
hibernate|suspend)
;;
thaw|resume)
aplay -d 1 /dev/zero
;;
*) exit $NA
;;
esac

/var/log/pm-suspend.log:
