[SOLVED] Post installation headaches

I've finally gotten machine back up again but I have two major issues I just can't fix. First one is that I have no sound. I tried to run alsaconf but it doesn't find anything. My card is an onboard soundcard using the snd-hda-intel driver. I have the it listed under modules in rc.conf but still no sound. Second problem is my wired network connection. It doesn't work anymore. It uses the r8169 driver but when KDE loads eth0 is nowhere to be found and r8169 is loaded in the modules section of rc.conf. I have to manually modprobe it after login in order to get my network going. The list is:

MODULES=(!b43 !ssb lib80211 lib80211_crypt_tkip wl mii r8169 pcspkr snd_seq_oss snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss snd-seq-device snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-rawmidi snd-timer snd snd-hda-codec snd-hda-intel soundcore snd-usb-audio snd-usbmidi-lib fuse)

Re: [SOLVED] Post installation headaches

For the driver stuff, check if they are not blacklisted

ls /etc/modprobe.d/

Re: [SOLVED] Post installation headaches

What version of the kernel are you using?

Latest rc.conf requires a new arrangement for the eth0 in the event you are up in latest version.

Re: [SOLVED] Post installation headaches

hal is not needed for anything this days. on the modules array the ! option is deprecated so check the news on the main page. For the rest, without more info i don't think we are able to help.

Re: [SOLVED] Post installation headaches

I found the problem with the sound and the wired network. They were indeed blacklisted in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory. So I just deleted those files and I had sound again and wired was also working again.
