[SOLVED?] Corrupt packages during installation... and other problems

Today has been the worst day ever.

I booted my computer (already running Arch Linux) and tried to start up wireless... except it didn't work.

sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
wlan0: unknown interface: No such device

I tried several things but nothing worked. I have backups of everything, so I decided that it would be easier to just re-install the whole thing.

I have an install CD, so obviously I tried it first. Same problem with wireless. I thought that the CD is probably too old (it's from 2009) and doesn't include the drivers I need. So I downloaded the latest archboot .iso and installed it on my USB stick (I've installed Arch three times that way - has worked perfectly).

Then I booted the stick. Wireless worked perfectly (so it's certainly a software error). The installation, however, didn't. While installing packages, it gave a ton of squashfs and buffer I/O errors. Then it said that some of the packages are corrupted and didn't install anything. I tried restarting the installation, but the only difference was which packages it called corrupted.

The last thing I could think of is trying the official .iso. I'm trying it now, hopefully it works.

But do you have any ideas why

1) wireless stopped working? (I did an update yesterday, it probably broke something... but what?)
2) the installer says some packages are corrupted?
3) the list of corrupted packages changes every time I restart the installation?

EDIT: ...aaaand the official installer doesn't work either. Different error though...

ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory

You might want to use the testing images http://releng.archlinux.org/ - they are much newer than the official isos (which are over a year old).

'SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory' - I see that google knows a lot about this error, but I don't see any solutions ;P

Testing .iso didn't work either, it doesn't even boot...

I'm trying archboot 2011.06 now, that's what I used last time...

SQUASHFS ERROR SQUASHFS ERROR SQUASHFS ERROR Installation complete.

Yeah, it worked. The installation, I mean. Wireless still doesn't work. *bangs head against wall*

Anyway, since I don't have problems with install anymore, I'll go to the networking section.
