Instead of starting firefox3, I am getting a firefox 5 window (kinda defeats the purpoes of installing firefox3 from the AUR)
Anways, here is some (hopefully) relevant info
user ~ $ ls -l /usr/bin/firefox*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 Jun 18 23:14 /usr/bin/firefox -> /usr/lib/firefox-5.0/firefox
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 Aug 4 19:37 /usr/bin/firefox3 -> /opt/usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox
So that shows that it should be pointing to the right executable. So I tried executing /opt/usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox and still a Firefox5 window popped up. Trying to start it with the profile manager does the same thing.
The only other thing I could think to try was this:
user ~ $ /opt/usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox-bin
Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with
minVersion >= 1.9.2.19
maxVersion <= 1.9.2.19
My initial thoughts is that it might have something to do with xulrunner, but I am not sure. Anyone have any ideas/how to test if it is xulrunner?

Have you tried 'firefox3'?
You can get older versions from ARM http://arm.konnichi.com/search/index.ph … ommunity=1 but they conflict with the current ones. This way you can be sure to launch firefox 3 w/o firefox 5 getting in your way (because it will be uninstalled) ;P

I want to keep firefox 5 on my system if at all possible. There is a certain addon I use in very limited cases which is not compatible with firefox 5, and I haven't needed to use it til now.

Are you sure it's not compatible i.e. it doesn't work? Many add-ons for Firefox 5 work just fine w/ firefox 8 :-)
Have you tried e.g. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo … atibility/

Yea. LOL. Tried that.

Have you tried closing all firefox 5 instances and starting firefox 3?

I'm the maintainer for firefox3. You need to run it with -no-remote (and preferably a different profile).
firefox3 -h
