hi!
I just tried to install already-compiled "2mandvd" DVD authoring package with pacman, on my brand new Arch Linux. But got this error;
# :) sudo yaourt -U 2mandvd*.pkg.tar*
error: error while reading package 2mandvd-1.6.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz: Pathname in pax header can't be converted to current locale.
error: '2mandvd-1.6.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz': libarchive errorI made some guess from error that this is something abt libarchive pkg and reinstalled it. But that didn't help. I've no other idea abt this shit ![]()

If you build any other package, do you get the same error or does it build fine?

Perhaps you could retry the build using official tools (makepkg and pacman) given that you're posting the pacman forum and not the AUR forum.
no. bro this is not abt aur. I got this error from "pacman" tool. moreover I've 2 arch linux installations on my pc (1 for KDE & 1 for Gnome). there's not anything wrong abt installing the same pkg file under the other one.

I just built 3 other packages with yaourt and it did perfect. but when it comes to 2mandvd package I get the same error again!
I ideate that it might be s.th with archiving tools since it get freaky with a particular tarball.

I'm not your "bro". You're using an unofficial tool to build an unofficial package. Why again are you posting in the pacman forum?
Using aforementioned official tools, I can't recreate your error.

I'm sorry respectable! I just thought it's abt pacman because I got error from "pacman" with -U switch and also there wasn't any problem installing that pkg in the other arch installation. I hadn't known that there also might be error when trying to rebuild it.
Now I just came to say that I managed to solve it. You're right, that wasn't because of pacman. It was just because of not any uncommented locale in locale.gen file. Appreciate your concern. You may now close/move/remove thread!
