Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I'm having some build errors with 3.0, reguarding some brcmsmac boot warning and EXTRA_FIRMWARE location...The solution of one problem bring to another problem hmm
If you are waiting a release, i don't think that it will be ready today...

Don't hurry yourself, CK should be back any day now. He probably won't have kernel patches ready from the get-go, but at least we should get some news soon. smile

Err, is that going to be a fork? I'd quite like to keep BFS in the main version if we can please

Edit: Didn't realise the thread had carried on, sorry! /noob

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Hm. My touchpad doesn't work with this kernel version. Really odd.

E: To sneak in more information, I checked /proc/bus/input/devices which shows that the touchpad handlers are mouse0 and event8, using cat to display either file shows nothing when moving the touchpad. It's recognized in Xorg.0.log, and the driver is loaded, but is just doesn't do anything when I move the mouse.

Sorry 'bout this, this has nothing to do with your kernel. Apparently, kcm_touchpad doesn't like linux-3.0. Uninstalling kcm_touchpad solves the problem. hmm

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I can't get PHC to work with this kernel on my Samsung N310. I've installed pch-intel from AUR and done /etc/rc.d/phc-intel setup. After I modprobe acpi-cpufreq PHC controls aren't available:

cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/phc_controls: No such file or directory

PHC works fine with stock Arch kernel.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I use lvm2 ontop of dm-crypt/luks. Obviously the dm-crypt stuff requires some modules.

I managed to boot successfully by using the default initrd (from the official kernel), however there are some errors about not being able to load some netbook modules.

modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/3.0.2-netbook/modules.dep: no such file or directory

This message is repeated several times.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I'm having loads of problems using the 3.0.2-1 version: most notable: no WIFI, keyboard hotkeys not working /working wrong. What can I do to supply more info about the errors, what logs would be needed etc?

Everything works fine using the stock kernel. The computer is an Eeepc 1005HA,

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

This 3.X kernel is bringing a lot of problems i see...And september is near with my exams hmm
In this moment i haven't the netbook available due to a KDE (i think) problem during his boot...I haven't time to install again arch...So i can't test anything hmm

@barzam
your problem is really strange, on my 1015pem all is working (wifi+hotkeys)...The hotkeys driver is always eeepc_laptop and to use it you have to append acpi_osi=Linux in grub...If you don't do so, the module asus-wmi will be loaded instead, and it hasn't yet all the functionality of eeepc_laptop. Moreover, it is not supported by acpi-eeepc-generic.

You have an atheros card right? i had i 1005hah till january and if i remember good it uses the ath9k (_PCI i suppose)...The module is in the kernel, and after the 3.0.1-1 that the module was missed, now it should be there...In ifconfig -a does your wifi card appear? In lsmod appear the name of the module?

I compiled the package and now it works, maybe something was wrong with the precompiled binary?

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Have you tried patching the latest kernel with the old BFQ patch? What is the error it throws?
I think it should be passed to the BFQ developer (I don't mind doing this, but I need the error details!)

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Yes i've tried but obviously there's an error tongue I think that when paolo will find some time to update, he'll do it....Usually he don't wait so much time but was summer also for him and maybe he has some issues for the 3.0 tree...

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

TuxOnIce compression doesn't work with LZO and LZF.  Leads to kernel panic in any way.
According to forum there's some problem with BFS and TuxOnIce working together. Will try to compile without BFS and check it today.

BTW, to use compression you need:
1) with initramfs add lzo to MODULES and optionally enable lzf

2) without initramfs you should compile lzo and/or lzf statically

Yes, without BFS patch hibernation works perfectly

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

@sherlock
I haven't understood a thing...If you use lzo and lzf as static modules all works fine also if you patch both TOI and BFS?

Is anyone using phc-intel with this kernel? The module compiles fine, but I get a device or resource busy error when trying to load it.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I can't seem to get wireless going with my HP Mini on the latest binary from the repo. Is there something I'm missing? I tried it with broadcom-wl installed and not installed.

EDIT: dieghen89 got back to me via e-mail. The wl module has been removed from the binary. Installing from the AUR now!
