Soundblaster 24, Alsa 1.0.8, garbled sound

Just managed to install alsa 1.0.8 - not sure if I should have just compiled it, am I screwing my Pacman settings up?

Anyway, was desperate to get some sort of sound out of this card, which I've just bought (downgraded :S) thinking I would get some trouble free mic and surround performance.

Right, so now I have some sound. Video sound is fine, but if I play mp3s the sound is buggered. It runs too fast, crackling and popping.

IS there anything I can do about this? Asound.rc settings or anything like that? If anyone has any ideas they'd be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Thom

btw let me know any logs or configs that would be helpful.

All well and good posting that 6 months later tongue

I'm torn between trying the SB Live again and maybe even getting surround sound, or just leaving my Digifire in and having firewire ports...

Iphitus: yep I've been wondering about that, it shouldn't be a prob should it? I could set up SB sound and Digifire Firewire, no? Just load the right modules and tweak alsa a little I'm guessing?

arch_mike, I'll go read that now, cheers.

Does that 5.1 include games?

Haven't stuck the other card in yet, will get back when I do.

Re: Soundblaster 24, Alsa 1.0.8, garbled sound

Depends on the games , i know i get it in Never Winter Nights smile ( linux client of course ) , and Unreal 2004 , once again , linux client only
But my 5.1 wasnt working in NWN , but than it did , im testing to see if its a bug or its something bioware is working on . I get it in DVD's etc , not in mp3 though , mind you i have a config file around to spoof the 5.1 setup so instead of using your F-left and F-rights only , you can use all 5.1 speakers using the same channel , but i havent had time to test it yet , give me a day and ill shoot you some feedback on it , but the above method revokes the environmental effects due to all speakers using the same channel  wink

Re: Soundblaster 24, Alsa 1.0.8, garbled sound

Right, just got up, gonna stick that gard in today.

UT2004 and DVDs (with Xine?) are pretty much all I want 5.1 for anyway, so that's cool.

Now, how do I use two cards? Just load the module for one? Or load both and tell alsa to use just the one?
