I'm trying to use the HDMI output port of my HP laptop to connect an external display, but the display is not detected. All packages from my installation are updated to the latest arch packages. Has anyone successfully used HDMI with nouveau? Where should I look for to solve this?
Many thanks for the help!
P.S. the video card is Quadro FX3600M (NV92) and I can use the HDMI output with windows (will try later with the proprietary driver, but probably will succeed)

What's the output of 'xrandr --prop' with the external display connected?

I've not used HDMI output for ages. When last I tried, I found (on my HP DV4) that the computer had to be connected to the television at boot time, and the television had to be in the HDMI input mode prior to boot.
YMMV

Well, this is an LCD display connected with HDMI-to-DVI cable, not a TV, so it automatically searches for signal on the DVI and SUB inputs. Anyway, I found something strange - when I suspend to RAM the laptop and then resume it, the monitor is recognized:

However, I'm a little bit puzzled, why it is recognized as both HDMI and DVI. Further, there is no signal to the monitor when I enable either DVI-D-1 or HDMI-1. I wonder if I've hit this nouveau bug.
Thanks for the help!

According to our wiki you should look at http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames for your card. You said your card was a NV92 so it should be the NV50 family. According to http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix neither hdmi-audio or tv-out is supported.

Correct, but I'm trying to use neither HDMI-audio, nor TV-out. Since HDMI is DVI compatible, I think the feature in the Nouveau feature matrix I need would be "Dual-link DVI", which is "MOSTLY[10]" implemented. Or am I wrong?

That much I don't know.

I had the same issue you have. I've got a HP Compaq 8710p with the same Nvidia graphics chipset. But since a recent update, the supsend/resume trick doesn't work anymore (not that that trick fixed anything before).
I've also tried forcing output to the HDMI out, using:
(I've got the modeline from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Modeline_Database , I got a Sony Bravia KDL-40W4000 TV)
xrandr --newmode "1920x1080" 148.50 1920 2448 2492 2640 1080 1084 1089 1125 +HSync +VSync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 1920x1080
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1920x1080
But that only resulted in my desktop area becoming larger (I could actually drag windows to the other 'screen'), while there was still no output on my TV. Also my XFCE panels moved to the other screen... In case you tried the above and found yourself in the same perilous situation (:p), I escaped with:
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --off
I also brought this issue up on the Nouveau IRC channel, people were very helpful there, but eventually the advice resulted in: wait for updates to the Kernel and/or Nouveau module.
Oh and yes, important to note: the HDMI output works perfectly with the Nvidia binary drivers (but I would rather want to use the Nouveau drivers).

Does anyone have a solution for this issue?, i experience the same issue on a HP Compaq 8510w with Nvidia Quarto card.
suspend/resume trick will detect that the HDMI cable is connected to a source, but i cannot render to the external display.(when forcing, mirroring or extending to HDMI-1 only duplicates to LVDS-1
I have not tried the GIT version, but I'm using the experimental libGL support.
Should i try the GIT version, or is this still a no-go?
Nvidia Blob is working. but i prefer to use nouveau.
