I have upgraded the system using pacman -Syu. I am not able to burn data or iso image using blank cd. I can mount and read a normal cd/dvd. When I insert a blank CD, a pop up message says " Error mounting:mount:block device /dev/sr0 is write protected, you must specify file system type". The system message from
# dmesg | tail
ASC=0x21 ASCQ=0x0
sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 01 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 64
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16
My kernel version is 3.0-ARCH, udev package is udev 173-3. I am using lxde desktop and hal is used for auto mounting usb sticks.
Please help?

You won't mount a blank CD -- first it needs a "file system", therefore it has to be recorded.

Thanks.
The problem is I can not burn cd. I am using xfburn to write cd/DVD. When I tried to burn an iso image on a blank cd using xfburn, I got the a following failure error.
** (xfburn:17314): WARNING **: [FATAL] 131357: SCSI error on write(282,16): [5 30 05] Cannot write medium, incompatible format (0)
** (xfburn:17314): WARNING **: [FATAL] 131339: Burn run failed (0)
.........
Also /var/log/errors.log showed
EXT4-fs (sr0): unable to read superblock
kernel: [63744.497596] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 64

Hal is deprecated and xfburn doesn't need it anymore.

Thanks Swanson. I removed hal from the system and it works now. I could burn image using xfburn

Same problem with nerolinux; if Hal is present it bugs out, if hal not present it works! I use both xfburn and nerolinux but I think xfburn will cover everything. Be ware of xfburn's autonaming using the sign ' ~ ' in the disc name. This character is not acceptable on all platforms and standalone dvd players.
