Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

That's quite an old kernel. We're at 3.0.1 now (2.6.40.1 if the old naming was kept). So upgrade. For the firmware you should be using the linux-firmware package, what you're using now is possibly outdated too.

Then check dmesg, if it says anything interesting, particularly about firmware loading.

Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

Interesting, as I downloaded the most recent image from the website and used -Syu. Should there be some mirror I should be using other than the default US ones?

Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

it says "command not found"
"error: package "linux" not found"

As for using those mirrors, I could not get a connection to them (even hardwired and I tested by pinging google first) I replaced the top 3 mirrors with the first 3 US ones at https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus

could not connect

Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

So this list that was given to me a few posts above http://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus.

All I get is blah. file not found. blah.

I managed to haphazardly get "core is up to date"
and the system recognizing that "extra" and community were not up to date, only to get blah file not found, blah when actually attempting to update them.

I looked at the dates on these servers, they appear to be recent. Evidently I am using a way outdated kernel, I cant update them with the default mirrors, or with that list provided to me. Is there another list. Yes, I double checked, first time was due to spelling errors, I double checked and corrected them. I have tried 6 servers thus far. 4 US 2 ANY. Any ideas?

Thanks you guys youve been great, ill be going to bed now but i really appreciate it. Ill keep trying tommorow

Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

and the answer is likely because those mirrors are infact, not up to date. I just ran the tool myself on archlinux.org myself. Not even close

Re: [SOLVED]Arch not acknowledging wireless card.

You need kernel 2.6.37 at least to get that wireless card to work. Find a different mirror and update then it will work, no problems.

THANK YOU PEEPS. wlan0 now exists. I may have trouble configuring it but this thread is SOLVED. Sorry for being an annoying returning nub. I learned alot even though I was doing everything wrong to begin with.

Thanks again!

You dorealize you have the power to mark it solved yourself.  It is actually an unofficial thing -- We suggest the original poster edit their first post and change the subject when they feel their thread is solved.

You made it pretty clear it is, so I'll do it for you (I can and the other mods can do that smile )  If I'm wrong, feel free to change it back...

Most of us enjoy helping -- especially those who show a willingness to help themselves.  Welcome to Arch Linux.

Edit, Hey wait -- someone already did mark it solved tongue
