Re: new pacman based distro

It's definately a good distro.
Lots of things seem to be near exactly like Slackware. The author, Joshua Rubin, told me that the goal was to have a drop-in replacement for Slackware, even though this isn't 100% the case, it's pretty close already. And everything seems to run very smoothly. I'm happy that I switched over.

Re: new pacman based distro

how are they different from Frugalware then? seems to me many frustrated slackers are trying the pacman/slack combo.

There have been a few answers about this over at the Rubix messageboards/Mailinglist here.

Re: new pacman based distro

I believe that ufficiozero is based on archie..which is the arch based live cd that z4ziggy and pals have been working so hard on (which kicks butt too. wink )

EDIT: Ack. too slow to post.

Re: new pacman based distro

I just installed this distro - works great for me.
Bit strange to see pacman refreshing all those different slack package sets but there you go...
more of an emphasis on a stable core of packages is what I want from a distro, plus I really got used to being able to use rc.conf to easily adminster different parts of the system so I appreciate that being there.
As the website says, it's still very young (younger than arch even!) but there appears to be a strong philosophy behind it already, and if that is maintained it should do very well.

Re: new pacman based distro

If you want more infos about ufficiozero (which means zerooffice smile) the distro has an official forum on the Italian community site (http://archlinux.it/forum). It is mainly in Italian, but don't be scared to post in English as well, balliano has no problems wink

Re: new pacman based distro

I book marked this. Might install it on my server before school starts if there is progress on it and seem like it would be worth it. I want something stable. Hopefully foomatic works with this distro. Couldn't get it to work on slack. No foomatic no Rubix.

**Use my server also as a printing server if you get what I mean**
