Need Thunderbird help when using IMAP

Hi Archers smile

Due to the recent kdepim kmail upgrades my mail is in a terrible state. I've been using kmail for years happily but the recent kdepim akonadi change has way too many very serious bugs that I can't work around.

So I tried to switch to the popular thunderbird but have issues with IMAP. Anyone else have this?

Basically I sync with IMAP server at home, and don't have access to it at work.
At work I receive emails via pop into an inbox.

I try move the emails to the IMAP directories and it fails with connection refused(firewall blocking me).
So the email stays in the inbox(problem).
I want it to move now, and sync later when I get home.
How can I do this?

With kontact/kmail this just worked(not much else is there though at the moment).

Note the above works, IF I set thunderbird to offline mode, then move the emails then switch back to online mode. sad

Any urgent help is hugely appreciated!

Tested with thunderbird 5 and 6. Looked for addons and googled lots but can't seem to see anyone complaining about this.
Unfortunately where I work they block my IMAP server.
I really want to use IMAP and not pop with my home mail server.

Re: Need Thunderbird help when using IMAP

If you control the server, can't you run it on the pop port? If not, you can set up some nat redirection using iptables or your router.

Re: Need Thunderbird help when using IMAP

I can enable pop on the server but I want IMAP rather so I can access my better from multiple clients.

Your NAT redirection rule is an excellent idea!
However outgoing all ports all blocked likely except 80 and 443. The bad news is 443 goes via a proxy. I wonder if that would work?
Do you think it will?

Excellent idea - thanks!

Re: Need Thunderbird help when using IMAP

I don't know but you could always use port 80.

Re: Need Thunderbird help when using IMAP

Bummer it's not working.
Basically 443/80 are both blocked unless they go via the proxy server. And thunderbird can't pass IMAP etc via it's proxy settings.
