BTW... Is there any progress upgrading the Arch stock kernel to 2.6.12.x? Has some sort of brick wall been hit?

2.6.12.2 just came out...
i dont know if i prefer these frequent updates, or loathe them entirely!
seems they always bring the next version out the day after i update (happened with 2.6.11.7 and now 2.6.12.1)..
oh well.. havent had any troubles with 2.6.12.1 so far.. so ill just wait..
btw, please dont think im against bug-fix releases.. its just their timing is always bad! ... or maybe its my timing?!

Suggest you update a day later in future

hmm... i'm still running 2.6.11.7. maybe it's time to upgrade.

Yeah, I'd say it is.
Anyway, I think I can guess why the upgrade to 2.6.12.x is taking so long: since DevFS is getting ripped out of the kernel, all the referrences to DevFS stuff have to be removed from the config files...

mind you, take a look at the changelog of these bugfix releases, you'll find a lot of them have no relevance to you or are minor or theoretical issues, so there's no urgency to update.

since i'm running a custom kernel package (w/ a few picked patches) i don't update much. i really only update every few releases b/c my needs are met by a kernel if i use it for any extended period of time. i've also been known to downgrade if i don't like a new release.

just a warning there a few issue with kernel 2.6.12.* with certian sound cards. My audigy 2 value doesn't work with the kernel.

yes I heard that do you know were I can find this patch? I heard that I could use a version of alsa that wasn't in the kernel but I didn't want to mess with that
