Internal microphone not working on a Dell Latitude E6420

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude E6420. Playing a sound file works perfectly but i cannot get the microphone to work. The codec is an IDT 92HD90BXX. I tried the various models listed on http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation … Models.txt to no avail. Playing with the mixer levels/unmute/etc. brings no improvement. I attach the output of alsa-info.sh. Any idea? Thanks!

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my Dell Latitude E4310, and apparently also the E6410, E6510.

The solution for me was to add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-s14

I tried that, unfortunately it does not work with this chipset. I do get a different set of channels though but it still cannot record anything. Maybe this chipset is too "new" for alsa. The latest release dates back from the end of January. Support for it is explicitly stated in the changelog to 1.0.24 but perhaps the recording part of it slipped through the cracks. ALSA bug tracking system seems quite closed.

I'm dealing with the same problem with Dell E6520 namely no sound recording from internal microphone even
though the support for ITD 92HD90BXX was added in alsa 1.0.24

Of course dell-s14 option doesn't work, according to this list:

it is for different sound chip.
When i try to record something in audacious there is an initial slope, but later no sound at all.
I've seen some Ubuntu bug reports on this topic but there wasn't clear solution (at least none of them worked for me).
Maybe the channels are mapped incorrectly? How to remap them manually.
Does anybody have an idea how to launch this microphone?
