i haven't seen a newsletter for a while,
is it dead or have i missed something?
edit: you can find a draft here: http://xerxes2.1go.dk/archlinux/newsletter.html

Why would you ask that on the forum when you know that Xentac and contrasutra never come here anymore? :-P

because i'm a forum only guy,
is there a problem with it or something,
it can't take long to snag that together,

I haven't heard anything about it being terminated or anything. I do know there was a bit of a kerfluffle with Ben quitting as a TU; I don't know if he dropped the newsletter too. If he did, Xentac doesn't have time to do it by himself.
Phrakture also mentioned something about reviving the newsletter, so maybe he knows something I don't.

ok, i didn't know that stuff,
i made a draft in a few minutes right now: http://xerxes2.1go.dk/archlinux/newsletter.html
some of the stuff in there is a bit useless if you ask me, like listing packages and bugs,
if you want dusty maybe you can finish it and fix so it gets posted, just copy and paste a little, ![]()

awesome - i was trying to contribute to the newsletter just before ben quit but it kept going wrong - Jason emailed me about it - I said i thought we needed the scripts that generate the stats sections - that was the last I heard.
I was happy to take over the forum stuff but i think everyone could easily contribute - post a link to your page on the arch mailing list - we'll have a new newsletter within a week ![]()

Errmm... well, Xentac was talking to me about doing this, and I made one on the first (but never got word back)...
I'll give him the heads up, point him to this thread...
PS there's no easy way to do the packages/bugs section... it's copy/paste, but ben little 4 line sh scripts to convert them to < li > format....

hello phrakture,
nice to see you also started doing this,
i copy and pasted stuff in yours that weren't in mine, as i said before i don't see the point in listing all new packages and all new and closed bugs, who the heck are reading them anyway?
you can take over from here if you wan't, just get the sucker posted, i've put a link in the first post to it,

if you need news, wait a short while and there'll be an 0.4.4 scripts release of Archie..........
now time to go and work out how the heck to use python's distutils.

i've put a few lines about archie in the news section,
thanks for suggestion it,

Alrighty then, looks like I have three people who want to contribute. I'll try and organize you three into newsletter writing machines, give you all a section or something and access to the svn.
Then you can make your updates as the weeks go on and the newsletter can be posted whenever.

I always wondered who read that stuff too. Though it might be nice to have the numbers - for the bug reports, we can link them directly to the "opened" and "closed" reports for that period... as for the package list, there's no reporting available in the interface (hint, hint) so that'd be more difficult, but it shouldn't be hard to manage something.
I agree that those sections are just clutter, but it'd be nice to have the stats at least (i.e. 34 bugs opened, 29 closed, 120 new packages, 212 updated packages, + AUR stats)...
Anyway, Xentac will be contacting all 3 of us that have shown an interest in this, so I'll wait until then.

that version on my site is merged with yours phrakture, except for all that packages/bugs stuff, i took it out and change the links and order of the content so it should be all right now,
hopefully xentac post it and we can aim on doing one release every month, it's just take an hour or something anyway so it's not that hard, ![]()

lots of people have been missing our dear newsletter,
I do! I like this new one in that it's removed the long package lists. *If* that had to be kept, then at least make them links to the package info.
If nothing else, it seems to serve as a small bridge between the mailing list and the forums, as those from one side can get a quick overview as to what's been going on, on the other side. If anything, I'd like to see these sections expanded as there is normally much more than 3-4 things occuring within a 2 week timespan. Since Phrak writes 99% of the forum messages (
), then with him on board, it shouldn't be a problem to get a more detailed overview!

yeah, those long lists were just annoying,
but there could be something like highlights instead, new big packages that were added and maybe some note about annoying bugs also,
it would be nice also if some of the core devs could write the devland section since we others don't know what they're doing,

hah... yeah if each person wrote one section, they can get much larger 8)

Core devs meaning, like, me? I've always written all of the devland section.
