It's pretty simple: the package that owns the binary that breaks on the GnuTLS dependency wink.

I emailed Perberos and offered to host a mirror for him.
In the meantime, if anyone has pre-built Arch packages let me know.  I could throw them up on my server quickly.

hey, i must say that a gnome 2 fork is just awesome! as i miss gnome 2 so much!! sad
I wanna ask about: is the mate desktop ready to use or still not some bug fixes before it can be used as a main desktop?

From the looks of it, it conflicts with packages from GNOME 3, but if you uninstall GNOME 3, it should run fine.  It's essentially a rebranded GNOME 2 at this point.

Just keep retrying the download, it'll work after a few tries.

Nevermind any of what I just said. I didn't check gitweb.

(it was about a menu editor)

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Perberos uploaded the Mate DE packages for i686 and x86_64 to my server.
For anyone who has been having trouble downloading Mate, you can try getting it from my mirror:

No problem smile
I'm also trying to mirror the source files, but I haven't been able to download all of them yet.

BTW - I installed the x86_64 packages last night and tried to run Mate DE.  It started up, but an endless stream of file manager windows opens up.  The only thing I can do is immediately log out because I can't get the windows to stop spawning.  My guess is that it has something to do with the Gnome2 and Gnome3 settings I still have laying around, but if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

I have begun a Wiki article on MATE. I understand it may be a little early for this, but I have a lot of faith in this project and let's face it; the Redmine site is a little too slow for reference and documentation.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

No problem. I am too lazy to rewrite it on github wiki.

quick fix, run as root:

ln -s /usr/lib/libgnutls.so /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.26

What does 'pacman -Sff' do? I can't seem to find any reference to double 'f' switch apart from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 60#p950860

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

Hi
Can I ask why is it called Mate? Why not users-desktop-environment or simple-desktop-environment etc.....?
Mate sounds like something you can drink.

After posting I googled Mate and it's indeed something you can drink see wiki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mate_%28beverage%29

Sorry my English is bad.

-Sff ignores file conflict warnings. I'm not sure if it overwrites the offending files or just leaves them, though.

Can you point me to a man page or anything that mentions -'ff' switch?

It creates pacnew files for the files in the backup array - if the 'files' metadata is present.
