pacman - Synchronizing package databases

Hello folks,

pacman does not update my system. The last time I did 'pacman -Syu' was on the 23-08-2011, but I can see that there are updates for core and so on.

When I force pacman to update the package list with 'pacman -Syy' or when I try to update the system I will get something like

 pacman -Syy
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core                                                        0.8K    8.2K/s 00:00:00 [##] 100%
 extra                                                       0.8K 1004.6K/s 00:00:00 [##] 100%
 community                                                   0.8K 1134.7K/s 00:00:00 [##] 100%
 multilib                                                    0.8K 1432.4K/s 00:00:00 [##] 100%
 archlinuxfr                                                24.3K  368.0K/s 00:00:00 [##] 100%

The databases for core, extra, community and multilib are very small and i guess that's the cause that my system does not update.

The mirrorlist seems to be OK.

Any suggestions on how to update the package database to update the system again. Has it something to do with the latest pacman update?

Thanks!

What does "file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db" give?

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: pacman - Synchronizing package databases

I am also experiencing update problem here in China. I use the following repos in mirrorlist:
Server = http://mirror.bjtu.edu.cn/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = http://mirror6.bjtu.edu.cn/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = ftp://mirrors.sohu.com/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = http://mirrors.sohu.com/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Server = http://mirrors.163.com/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch

if only 163 mirror has problem, why other servers are not able to work well as alternatives?  confused!

when I type" sudo pacman -Syu", console reply that system has already be updated and at the newest state, there is nothing to do.  but it is impossible that there are nothing for updating within 2 or 3 days, there must be something new emerged everyday. isn't it?

Meanwhile, when I type " pacman -Ss packagename" (e.g, pacman -Ss vlc) , tap Retern key, nothing !  very odd! what's wrong with my pacman ? thanks.
